Mulberry Syrup | Cajun 911 Cuisine
This Cajun 911 Mulberry Syrup is deep, rich, and beautifully versatile. Fresh mulberries cook down quickly into a naturally vibrant syrup that’s equal parts Southern tradition and everyday luxury. Use it for pancakes, biscuits, tea, cocktails, desserts, or even as a glaze for savory dishes.
INGREDIENTS
Mulberry Syrup
2 cups fresh mulberries, rinsed and stems removed
1 cup sugar (or 3/4 cup for lighter sweetness)
1 cup water
1 Tbsp lemon juice
Optional Flavor Additions
Small strip of lemon zest
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 cinnamon stick
2–3 fresh mint leaves
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Combine Ingredients
Add mulberries, sugar, water, and lemon juice to a saucepan. Add lemon zest or cinnamon if using. Stir well.
2. Cook the Syrup
Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat. Simmer 10–15 minutes until the berries soften and the syrup thickens. Mash the berries gently for deeper flavor.
3. Strain or Keep Chunky
For a smooth syrup, strain through a fine mesh sieve. For a rustic syrup, leave the berries in.
4. Finish
Stir in vanilla extract if using. Allow to cool slightly, then transfer to jars or containers.
5. Store
Refrigerate up to 2 weeks. Freeze in ice cube trays for long-term storage.
