cajun & creole classics cherries chicken holiday cajun cooking pork sauces condiments seasonings southern & cajun desserts steen's cane syrup
Cherry glaze made with Steen’s Cane Syrup in a saucepan.

This Louisiana-style glaze blends sweet cherries with the deep, caramel richness of Steen’s Cane Syrup. A touch of citrus brightens the flavor, creating a glossy, versatile glaze that works beautifully on ham, pork, chicken, cornbread, desserts, and even mocktails. Sweet, tangy, and unmistakably Cajun.

INGREDIENTS

1 cup cherries, fresh or frozen, pitted

1/4 cup Steen’s Cane Syrup

2 Tbsp brown sugar, optional

1 Tbsp butter

1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Pinch of salt

Optional: 1–2 Tbsp water for thinning

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Cook the Cherries

Place the cherries in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add a splash of water if using fresh cherries. Cook for 3–5 minutes, until softened and juicy.

2. Add Steen’s Syrup and Flavorings

Stir in Steen’s Cane Syrup, brown sugar if using, butter, vanilla, and salt. Simmer for 5–7 minutes, until the glaze becomes thick and glossy.

3. Add Citrus

Stir in the lemon or orange juice and simmer for 1 additional minute.

4. Adjust Thickness

Simmer longer for a thicker glaze or add a small amount of water to thin to a pourable consistency.

5. Serve or Store
