Hot Cocoa with Evaporated Milk | Cajun 911 Cuisine
This Cajun 911 hot cocoa is rich, silky, and full of old-fashioned chocolate flavor thanks to evaporated milk. Cozy and decadent, it’s perfect for winter nights, porch sipping, and holiday gatherings when you want something comforting, familiar, and deeply satisfying.
INGREDIENTS
For 2–3 Servings
1 (12 oz) can evaporated milk
1 cup water
3 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
3–4 Tbsp sugar, to taste
1 tsp vanilla extract
Pinch of salt
Optional: 1/2–1 tsp instant coffee
Optional Toppings
Marshmallows
Whipped cream
Chocolate shavings
Cinnamon or nutmeg
Peppermint stick
Caramel drizzle
INSTRUCTIONS
1. Make the Cocoa Base
Whisk cocoa powder, sugar, salt, and 1/2 cup of the evaporated milk in a saucepan over medium heat until smooth.
2. Add Remaining Liquid
Add the remaining evaporated milk and the water. Whisk until fully blended.
3. Heat Slowly
Simmer on low heat, stirring often. Do not boil. Cook until slightly thickened and glossy.
4. Finish
Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and instant coffee if using.
5. Serve
Pour into mugs and garnish with marshmallows, whipped cream, or seasonal toppings.
